Janson Text is based on the types originally cut by the Hungarian punch cutter, Nicolas Kis circa 1690 and named after Anton Janson, a Dutch printer. The original matrices came into the hands of the Stempel foundry in Germany in 1919 and were the basis for this version. The design of the Janson Text font family was supervised at Linotype by Professor Horst Heiderhoff, with Adrian Frutiger as consultant. Janson Text is a text face that is elegant and legible. Janson Text™ is a trademark of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG, which may be registered in certain jurisdictions, exclusively licensed through Linotype Library GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG.
