A particularly juicy design, inspired by the cheery, playful shininess of jellybeans with their lovely rounded shapes. For me this had to be much more than just polished little blobs however, I wanted it to have its own typographic integrity, allowing it to work just as hard without the shine. Set in black, the letterforms look a lot like volcanic glass so Obsidian seemed a good name. There are three separate fonts: Obsidian Glass, the basic shiny face; Black, the same letterforms with the reflexions removed; and Highlight, which is just the shines themselves. Obsidian Black can be used as a font in its own right or as a base to which you can overlay Highlight in a suitably light color, allowing the shine to work even when the type runs over a background.
