ITC Avant Garde Gothic Bold

The distinctive logo designed by Herb Lubalin and Tom Carnase for the Avant Garde magazine was used as the basis for this typeface family. The design of the Avant Garde Gothic font family is clearly influenced by the geometric sans serif faces that were popular in the 1920s and 30s. Like Futura, the overall design of the Avant Garde Gothic font family is based on simple geometric shapes, with very short ascenders and descenders. The Avant Garde Gothic oblique fonts were created for ITC in 1977 by Andre Gurtler, Christian Mengelt and Erich Gschwind. Avant Garde Gothic is useful for headlines, display work and short pieces of text, particularly in advertising.
